SONNY BLACK'S ROOTS & BLUES (featuring Paul Swinton & Dick Jones)

In concert Sonny Black performs a variety of intimate, soulful acoustic and slide guitar instrumentals and songs, with influences from blues, world music, jazz and country. His albums receive radio play on Jazz FM, BBC Radio 2 and local stations throughout the UK. Live sessions on The Paul Jones and Johnny Walker shows have helped him to reach a wider audience.
Making up the front line of Sonny Black’s Blues Band in the 1980s, Sonny Black (guitar/vocals), Paul Swinton (harmonica/guitar/vocals) and Dick Jones (bass guitar) backed such touring American blues artists as Big Joe Duskin, Lowell Fulson, Phil Guy and Eddie C. Campbell. As a hard-working, highly proficient outfit in its own right, the band also played support to the likes of Robert Cray, Carey and Lurrie Bell and Guitar Shorty.
Taking a breather from the powerhouse sounds of Chicago and contemporary blues, Messrs Black, Swinton and Jones also performed as an unplugged trio, playing a mixture of pre-war blues, guitar rags, jazz-tinged instrumentals and general American roots music.
This trio has recently re-formed to play some of the old favourites and a wide selection of new material. Sonny Black’s Roots & Blues are now taking bookings for 2010 and into next year. For possible dates, contact the band via sonny_black_uk@yahoo.co.uk.
